This time our prayers centred on the end of the Year of Mercy, and the lessons we will carry forward from it.

A reading from St Luke’s Gospel reminded us of Jesus as the bringer of forgiveness to the penitent. Can we follow his example of forgiveness, as Pope Francis prayed at the beginning of the Year of Meracy?

A reading from a speech by Federico Mayer told us that no one wins a war. So can we forgive our enemies – even those who seek to terrorise us?

The third reading was from an article by Gulwali Passarlay, who came to the UK as a traumatised 13-year-old refugee from war-torn Afghanistan. How do we respond to the needs of refugees like him? And how can we help those who are fearful of refugees?

The service, as always, included music and times of silent prayer and meditation. If you were not able to attend you can see the full text of the service here.
