The witness for this first session is a spokesman for the Yanomami group of indigenous people of the Brazilian Amazon. What he has to say relates to Pope Francis’s idea that when in the creation story we were given power over creation it was so that we could learn to sustain it rather than to exploit it. I have copied from Wikipedia a bit about the Yanomami’s struggle to retain their land and links to the much fuller Wikipedia article. This has links to a couple of short videos and to the talk given by Fr Edwin Gariguez – just follow this link.
Each month the Pope has a special message and for February 2016 it is that we may take good care of creation – a gift freely given – cultivating and protecting it for future generations.
